The Milkman of Anatevka
Tevye has a milk cart, a tired horse, a devoted wife and five daughters. He does not have much money, but he has plenty to say, especially to God, whom he talks to as easily as a neighbor over the fence.
His days are ordered by the customs of his ancestors, and to Tevye those customs are what hold the whole village together.
